The transfer process uses the standard EPP (Extensible Provisioning Protocol) that all ICANN-accredited registrars support. You unlock the domain at your current registrar, obtain the authorization code (also called an EPP key or transfer secret), and provide it to us.
Once submitted, we initiate the transfer through the registry. Your current registrar receives a transfer request and has 5 days to approve or deny it. Most registrars auto-approve after a waiting period. Some (.com, .net) can complete in hours if the losing registrar confirms quickly.
During the entire process, your DNS records continue resolving normally. There is zero downtime — the domain keeps pointing wherever it pointed before. Nothing changes until the transfer completes and you choose to update your nameservers.
Before the transfer completes, we query your existing DNS records from your current authoritative nameservers. A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, CAA — every record type is captured with its TTL value intact. No manual re-entry required.
The imported records are staged in our managed DNS system. When you switch to Sigilhosting's nameservers after transfer, your DNS is already configured identically to what you had before. We recommend verifying the import via our dashboard before switching nameservers.
DNSSEC signatures are handled carefully during transfer. If your domain uses DNSSEC, we coordinate the DS record update with the registry to avoid a period where validation fails.
For agencies, resellers, and companies with large domain portfolios, our API accepts bulk transfer requests. Provide an array of domain names and auth codes in a single POST request, and we initiate all transfers in parallel.
Transfer status webhooks notify your systems as each domain progresses through the stages: initiated, pending approval, approved, and completed. You can also poll the API for status on individual transfers or the entire batch.
Pricing matches standard registration pricing for each TLD. There are no bulk surcharges or per-transfer fees beyond the registration cost.
Every domain transfer includes a one-year registration extension (required by ICANN policy and included in the transfer price), free WHOIS privacy to keep your personal information out of the public WHOIS database, and an automatically issued SSL certificate via Let's Encrypt as soon as DNS points to our infrastructure.
We support transfers for all major gTLDs (.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz) and popular new gTLDs (.io, .dev, .app, .co, .ai, .xyz, .tech, .cloud, .store). Country-code TLDs (.us, .uk, .de, .nl, .ca, .au) are supported where the registry allows standard EPP transfers.
Some TLDs have registry-specific restrictions: .io transfers require the domain to be at least 60 days old, .dev and .app require HSTS headers, and some ccTLDs require residency in the associated country. Our transfer system checks eligibility before initiating.
